CVSA Meeting

Wednesday 22 February 2017
09:30 to 12:00

MEET LOCAL MPS STEVE REED & GAVIN BARWELL

The first CVSA meetings of 2017 will host two of our local MPs – Steve Reed and Gavin Barwell. Here are the dates, with both meetings at 9.30 for 10.00am start at the CVA Resource Centre:

  • WEDNESDAY 22 FEBRUARY 2017 – Keynote Speaker Steve Reed MP - Book here
  • FRIDAY 28 APRIL 2017 - Keynote Speaker Gavin Barwell MP - Book here

Steve Reed is now the Opposition’s Shadow Minister for Civil Society, which gives us the opportunity to put Croydon’s voluntary & community sector back where it belongs – on the national stage, sharing all the great work we’re doing and participating in national debates on empowering citizens and transforming local services.

Gavin Barwell is the Government Minister for Housing, Planning and London. We look forward to getting his take on the Prime Minister’s new vision of a shared society and on the big issues for Croydon – when will the town-centre redevelopment gain pace, will local people benefit from the new jobs being created and will there be enough affordable housing to meet the demand?

As usual we’d like to help our speakers prepare by sending them some questions in advance. For Steve Reed, please send your questions through to me by Wednesday 8 February. I’ll give you a deadline for questions to Gavin nearer the time.

I look forward to seeing you first on 22 February – in the meantime best wishes for a happy new year from all at CVA.

VOLUNTARY SECTOR SUB GROUP OF THE STRONGER COMMUNITIES PARTNERSHIP

Eight colleagues (click for details) represent the CVSA on the borough’s Stronger Communities Partnership – the body bringing together the Council, Croydon Health and the Police with a cross-section of local people to develop ways of making Croydon’s communities safer, healthier and more vibrant. A new group has been created to focus specifically on the role Croydon’s voluntary and community groups play in this – and on how that role can be supported by better commissioning, a bigger focus on prevention, more structured volunteering and a greater commitment to partnership working.

Are you interested in becoming a member of the Voluntary Sector Sub Group? We are looking to appoint people in the following categories:

  • Grassroots community groups
  • Social enterprises
  • Larger charities
  • BME groups
  • Women’s/family support
  • Disability
  • Homelessness
  • Mental health
  • Older people
  • Younger people
  • Social isolation

To register your interest please email Sarah Burns, sarah.burns@cvalive.org.uk, and provide a picture and short biography (no more than 2 paragraphs) that we can use on CVA’s website.
