Croydon Family Power was a Big Lottery funded partnership programme delivering two services for families in Croydon - Family Navigators & Asset Based Community Development. It ran in Croydon over 3 years with an extra one year extension but ended in April 2016.
The project slightly changed in its last year with Family Guides based in schools/GP practices signposting families to local activities and Familiy Navigators, and Family Navigators (Off the Record, Croydon Drop In, Croydon Mencap, Disability Croydon, Home Start Croydon) ensuring families are accessing services that can help them. Strengthening this work, both referred families to each other. Find out more about the work of the Family Connectors in the 10 week pilot which led to this extension.
The previous Croydon Family Power programmed included four key delivery elements and used a unique combination of evidence-based approaches building child-empathy, enhancing parental capabilities and strengthening family resilience, alongside innovative community development work utilising the natural assets in our communities.
This integrated programme tackled root causes by strengthening families before problems occur or escalate, by building and nurturing community links and by brokering continued support.
It created a new evidence base and integrated Voluntary Community Sector provision within a co-ordinated and co-operative system of support for 'just coping' families where the eldest child is between 5 and 10 years (this criteria has now been removed) in the borough of Croydon.
