Health and Well-Being Day

Wednesday 31 May 2017
10:30 to 15:30

Come along and find out more about healthy eating, have a go at boxing, take part in football, or try chair aerobics, and much more.

Staff from the housing needs division have planned the event, which will include cooking demonstrations from the Guiding Hands community group.

The group, which helps young mums prepare healthy family food, will be giving away menu cards encouraging young people to cook simple and healthy meals, rather than ordering takeaways.

Advisers from Croydon Council’s Live Well service will be on hand to take people through the health information available on the JustBe Croydon website – www.justbecroydon.org

The Community Food Learning Centre, run by the Good Food Matters charity, will be promoting organic home-grown products and healthy options.

Crystal Palace for Life Foundation will deliver boxing sessions for all age groups, with everyone who gets involved receiving a raffle ticket with the chance to win a stadium tour around Selhurst Park.

The team will be encouraging young people to play football and basketball at the event, which will also include fun runs and women-only walks.

Older residents can take part in the gentle exercise of chair aerobics, while smoothie bikes aim to encourage adults and children to take on a fun challenge, which ends with a healthy drink – the faster you peddle the quicker you make your smoothie.

There will also be face-painting for children, henna skin decorations and head massages on offer.

Staff from the sustainable communities and the resident involvement teams will be manning stalls providing housing information, advice and guidance, and there will also be a chance to find out about council support services such as the Family Justice Centre, which helps those who have experienced domestic abuse.

Health professionals will be on hand offering blood-pressure checks, and information about diabetes, a healthy heart, meditation and relaxation.

Council neighbourhood safety officers and police Safer Neighbourhoods officers will be offering community safety advice and listening to any concerns.
