The Gonubalabala island-based Mailulu tribe has partnered with eco-tourism company Tribewanted to find 10 British volunteers to join them for up to 4 months, living in the village as part of the tribe.
Applications are open to anyone willing to bring their own tent or take up residence in a local bungalow for the duration of their stay. Volunteers will be expected to take part in all aspects of tribal life, from building, to cooking and fishing, and to commit to helping the tribe, as well to helping to build their community and develop sustainable living. Volunteers are asked to pay $1250 per month.
Filippo Bozotti, co-founder of Tribewanted, said:
“Life as part of an island tribe packs a huge culture shock and it’s quite a leap, but we know there are people out there who are ready for it and have been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long time. Gonubalabala is an awesome place and the Mailulu people are some of the kindest, strongest and wisest the world has to offer; now is the time to have the experiences you dream about.”
