Prescribing in Croydon eats up £42.8 million each year, 9% of the local £465 million health budget. Croydon NHS have been placed in special measures in July this year, and need to find a further £5.7 million savings on top of existing plans to save £12.7 million this year.

By cutting prescribing of gluten-free foods, vitamin D, baby milk and self-care medications to most, but not the most vulnerable groups, savings can be made of up to £600,000 each year.
