Over the last few months the Carers Information Service have undertaken a survey amongst carers to identify their experiences of GP support in the borough. Of those surveyed:
- • 61% of carers say their GP knows about their caring role.
- • 82% of carers have not been informed of carer support available in the community.
- • 59% of carers have not been offered an NHS Health Check by their GP.
- • 35% of carers have not been offered the annual flu jab.
They are keen to work with GPs in partnership to help them support carers and will be presenting findings to the GP clinical networks over the next two months in order to discuss how their service can best support practice staff and GPs in this regard. They are also undertaking a series of events and activities at the Carers Support Centre to celebrate Carers Week (12-18 June), one of which will be a presentation about their research, highlighting good practice in the borough. If you would like to attend, the details are included in the attached flyer.
