In July London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, launched a new competition for the 32 London boroughs to apply for funding to lead a game changing cultural programme. Two winning boroughs will be named London Borough of Culture, one in 2019 and one in 2020. An extra £600,000 will be made available for other boroughs who put forward impressive projects.
The deadline for the submission of bids is the 1 December 2017, with the winners announced in February 2018.
The funding will commit boroughs to introducing artistic initiatives and make culture an integral part of their future. An ITV people’s choice poll for the 2019 borough of culture is open and, right now, Croydon is racing ahead as the people’s choice favourite.
