This award was created by The Queen in 2002 to mark the occasion of her Golden Jubilee, recognising excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community and is the MBE for voluntary groups.
The Volunteer Centre Croydon is an accredited Volunteer Centre and is part of Croydon Voluntary Action, the umbrella body for Croydon’s voluntary sector. The Volunteer Centre, based in Centrale Shopping Centre, promotes volunteering across Croydon, supporting various events including local community festivals, as well as running and hosting talks and presentations to various interested groups. It is the main point of contact for people looking to volunteer in Croydon, providing support to an increasing number of charities across the borough. We have continually evolved ever since our creation over 30 years ago, a small staff team of 2.5 staff and over a 100 volunteers make it easier for people to get involved in volunteering, while delivering projects supporting vulnerable individuals.
Karen Chillman, Head of Volunteering said: ‘This is a real reflection of the amazing work delivered by an incredibly dedicated team of volunteers and staff working in partnership with a wide range of organisations in Croydon'.
