Gamechanger was a partnership project led by CVA, with Croydon Council, London Sport and Crystal Palace Football Club Foundation, predominantly funded by Sport England.
This initiative brought together numerous local sports organisations to raise the profile of sport in the borough and make a variety of sports activities more accessible to young people aged between 14-25 years old - from fitness classes to basketball, cricket to tennis, boxing to martial arts.
We delivered to over 1,372 participants, 75% of which were from BAME communities. On entry, 50% were doing less than 1 hour of exercise a week which reduced to 26% on exit from the programme, with a 75% increase in those doing over an hour of activity. We also encouraged young people to act as Peer Mentors, undertaking volunteering and leadership opportunities and taking coaching qualifications if desired.
Our latest Sportworks impact report shows that for every £1 spent on the programme, £12 was generated in cost savings to society, an annual cost saving to society of over £1.3m.
