Indefinite Leave for Victims of Domestic Abuse (Rights of Women)
Wednesday 13 August 2025
10:00 to 13:15
This session is part of our recurring series on immigration law for migrant victims of domestic abuse. Rights of Women are offering a series of online courses focused on immigration law for migrant victims of domestic abuse.
Registration for each course will open approximately three weeks prior to the event.
Courses are free and delivered online via Zoom by one of our immigration lawyers. If you have already attended a course previously, please do not apply and allow others the opportunity to register.
To ensure fairness and diverse representation, we limit the number of participants from each organisation.
Please note: This is a content-heavy session covering a lot of ground in a short time. We recommend setting aside a little extra time, as the session may overrun by up to 10 minutes to allow for questions.
This the second course in our Immigration law for migrant victims of domestic abuse series.
For more than two decades, migrant victim / survivors with certain types of partner visa have been able to secure their immigration status on relationship breakdown by applying for settlement as a victim of domestic abuse. This course addresses who can qualify under this route and explores the impact of changes introduced by government since 31 January 2024.
It will include:
- the expansion of the settlement route to include migrant victims / survivors who have been abandoned overseas and the different considerations that apply to them;
- the extra requirements on children who face additional barriers under this route.
Eligibility and Registration
- This session is open to non-legal professionals in England and Wales working on violence against women and girls issues from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors including refuge workers, IDVAs, ISVAs, social workers, housing officers, police officers, education professionals and health professionals.
- It is also open to Commissioners and Local Authority Officers responsible for commissioning violence against women services.
Please note:
- Legal professionals, such as OISC/IAA Level 1 or above, legal advisors, and solicitors, are not eligible for a place.
- Submitting your application does not guarantee a place on the course. We will review all applications to confirm eligibility and let you know if your place has been confirmed.
- Places are limited, and once we reach capacity, we will operate a waiting list.
- We limit the number of places per organisation due to high demand. Priority is given to applicants who clearly meet the funders’ eligibility criteria and those who have not previously attended this training.
- Please only apply if you’re reasonably confident you’ll be able to attend. We completely understand that unexpected things come up, but frequent no-shows affect our ability to report accurately to our funders and continue offering these courses.
