Learn how to identify people at risk of radicalisation into violent extremism and how to respond appropriately.
Prevent is one of the four elements of CONTEST, the government's counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. The Home Office works with local authorities and a wide range of government departments, and community organisations to deliver the Prevent strategy.
This introductory interactive session has been developed specifically for frontline staff. It will help you to identify people who may be vulnerable and at risk of becoming involved in radicalisation and violent extremism and provides advice on how to respond appropriately.
Learning objectives
- Develop an understanding of the Prevent strategy and roles within it
- Enhance expertise and professional judgment regarding extremism and radicalisation
- Increase awareness of the national and international picture of extremism and terrorism
- Highlight links between online risks and radicalisation
- Improve confidence in raising concerns
- Raise awareness of Channel interventions and safeguarding individuals
- Increase organisational capacity to prevent extremism and safeguard vulnerable people
