Level 1 - Makaton Training for parent/carers and professionals (Croydon Family Hubs)

Overview

Katie from Keep Signing will deliver Makaton Training between 12th January and Friday 27th March 2026. Each date is a full day of training, and participants will receive certification upon completion.

 

If you are booking onto Level 2, 3, or 4, please note that you must provide your previous certificates to access further training:

  • Level 2 requires Level 1 certification
  • Level 3 requires Level 2 certification
  • Level 4 requires Level 3 certification

Training Dates

  • Level 1: 12th January or 9th March
  • Level 2: 30th January or 27th March
  • Level 3: 9th February
  • Level 4: 23rd February

Session Information

Level 1:
Provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. Includes commonly asked questions, tips for effective signing and symbol use, and guidance on using Makaton in everyday situations. Learn signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2 (145 concepts) for functional communication.

Level 2:
Builds on Level 1. Covers Stages 3 and 4, plus the Additional stage of the Core Vocabulary. Includes practical tips and everyday application.

Level 3:
Follows Level 2. Focuses on improving signing and symbol skills, translation and interpretation techniques. Learn signs and symbols for Stages 5 and 6.

Level 4:
Completes the Core Vocabulary. Develops advanced skills to support individuals with a wide range of communication needs. Learn signs and symbols for Stages 7 and 8.

Taster Session:
Ideal for those unsure about committing to full training. Offers a general introduction to Makaton and teaches around 30 everyday signs plus 12 themed signs.

All participants receive a manual with Makaton symbols and line drawings of the signs covered in the workshop.
