Reclaiming Narratives through literature and film (Mentivity)

Thursday 04 June 2026
18:30 to 20:00

Join Mentivity for a powerful evening celebrating storytelling, community, and reclaiming narrative through film, literature, and conversation.

Authors of the Estate is a grassroots publishing movement turned documentary, created by residents from St. Raphael’s Estate and Chalkhill Estate in North West London. The project challenges stereotypes surrounding working-class communities and empowers residents to document their lives, environments, and histories through their own perspective.

At a time when estates are often reduced to headlines, aesthetics, or political talking points, this documentary recentres the people, creativity, and culture within them.

The screening will be followed by a live Q&A and panel discussion exploring:

  • Storytelling as resistance and empowerment

  • Representation in publishing and film

  • The importance of preserving community voices

  • Creativity within working-class communities

The film features contributions from:

  • André Anderson — Founder of Authors of the Estate

  • Abdou Cissé — BAFTA-nominated filmmaker

  • Nabil Al-Kinani — Author and contributor to the project
