Identifying and Responding to Gaming and Gambling Related Harm
As a social care professional, you are often in a unique position to recognise when a young person may be experiencing difficulties. While gaming and digital platforms can provide positive opportunities for connection, learning, and development, they can also present emerging risks that may impact a child’s mental health, wellbeing, and safety.
This specialised training from YGAM is designed to equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools to identify, understand, and respond to these risks effectively.
Who should attend:
This session is tailored for social workers, family support teams, early help practitioners, and all professionals working with children, young people, and families.
What you will learn:
- Explore the motivations, influences, and behavioural patterns associated with gaming and digital engagement
- Understand the increasingly blurred boundaries between gaming and gambling, and the implications for young people
- Recognise the impact on children affected by another person’s gaming or gambling behaviours
- Identify early warning signs of harm and understand appropriate pathways for support and signposting
- Develop practical engagement techniques and conversation starters to support effective communication with young people and families
By the end of the session, you will be better equipped to recognise potential risks, initiate meaningful conversations, and support young people in navigating digital environments safely and confidently.
