Understanding how to support those vulnerable to hate crime

As part of the CATCH partnership, Protection Approaches are offering free hate crime awareness training to those working on the frontline in London.

Overview:

This free, three‑hour course is designed for frontline staff and volunteers working with people at risk of being subjected to hate crime.

The content is designed to help participants to be able to have informed discussions with community members about hate crime and the reporting and support options available to them if they experience hate crime. At the end of the training participants will feel more equipped to offer initial basic support and signposting to victims of hate crime, as well as more able to raise awareness of hate crime among the communities they work with.

This is a fully interactive online session based around a series of group activities which help participants to investigate:

• What is hate crime
• Barriers to reporting or seeking support
• Reporting and support options
• What happens when a hate crime/incident is reported?
• Impact of hate crime on victims / witnesses and the community
• Understanding the CATCH services and making referrals
