Independent Age offers free training to share knowledge and upskill frontline staff who support older people in their communities.

Housing is often the biggest cost older people have to account for. This free training session is for frontline staff looking to expand their knowledge of benefits and support available to people over State Pension age, so they can pay their housing costs.

By the end of the session, you will:

• feel confident knowing what Housing Benefit is, and how to support someone to apply for it
• understand how Housing Benefit is calculated, and why someone may get less than they expect
• know what Support for Mortgage Interest is, and who can apply
• feel comfortable explaining how to claim Support for Mortgage Interest
• be aware of other possible support with housing costs – including support from local councils
• know when to signpost to specialist advice.
