An introduction to the challenges new and expectant dads face during the perinatal period and the support available to them.

This session introduces practitioners to current research and best practice when it comes to understanding the risks and opportunities for male partners during pregnancy and the first year of a child’s life. Taking a “think family” approach to promoting better outcomes for dads, mums, and infants.

 

Learning objectives

  • Understand the critical importance of fathers in the first 1001 days of a child’s life
  • Be aware of the unique challenges fathers face, including mental health risks and suicide
  • Identify risk factors for relationship difficulties and domestic abuse during this period
