The Big Lunch is about millions of people getting together to share food, have fun and get to know each other better. It's a simple idea - that for a few glorious hours, cars stop, shyness stops and neighbours come together in the street to meet, greet, share, swap, sing, plan and laugh.
Every year, over 6 million people take to their streets, gardens and neighbourhoods to join in for a few hours of community, friendship and fun - join in!
If you are organising a Big Lunch in Croydon you will need to apply to Croydon Council for a temporary road closure - you can click on the link below to complete an online form. There won't be any charge for this the the Council will provide you with road closure signs.
The deadline to apply for a road closure is 3 May 2019.
However you don't need to stop at street lunches - why not organise one in one of Croydon's parks?
This year as the Big Lunch falls during Ramadam lunar lunches are also encouraged.
Croydon Council have put together a FAQ guide covering issues such as if you are having a tombola, insurance, alcohol, etc.
There are lots of ideas on the official Big Lunch website and you can register to apply for a Big Lunch pack offering ideas and free resources.
