The importance of the role played by the community in tackling violence against women and girls

Chloe Smith, Community Builder at Croydon Voluntary Action, said: “In a borough as large as Croydon and with an issue as rife as violence against women and girls, it would be easy to be overwhelmed at the notion of how much change is needed.”

“The solution we need is in our unity and strength as a borough - with each piece from statutory to small grassroots groups, infrastructure and passionate residents all taking their place."

“It's important, as a Community Builder, that I share the local insights with my colleagues in statutory and health and pass their insights back into the community.”

“Connecting people on the ground, informing and signposting into local support as well as identifying gaps, as I come into increasing contact with women who are surviving past and present the trauma of domestic abuse.”
