Each year LFB produces an Assessment of Risk, which looks at its current understanding of the risks affecting London to which they could be expected to respond.

Part of the document is a section called “concerns of people and communities”, which instead of looking at what the statistically highest risks are, asks communities across London to define what they feel the biggest concerns are within their own lives. 

This allows them to understand how people perceive their own risks, which in turn means they can shape services and communications to better serve the diverse communities across London.

Join a focus group

The LFB will hold focus groups with a number of different communities across London, and are now looking to do this for the 2027 Assessment of Risk.

In these focus groups, they will speak to attendees about a number of risks and record how concerned people feel about each one.

The session lasts approximately an hour. This could either be part of a group's regular meetings, or could be held as a separate session. It can be hosted in-person or online. They will be looking to hold these sessions between now and the autumn.

LFB can also bring additional materials to these sessions if the group wishes – for example, resources on home fire safety, information on campaigns, etc. 

As they know that this is often appreciated, and can also then be disseminated further to help keep people safe.

They are happy to hold a session with any interested groups. However, they are also specifically looking for groups with the following focuses:

• Older people
• Young people
• Disability
• LGBTQ+
• Ethnic minorities
• Faith
• Women (and/including maternity & caring responsibilities)
