This session will explore how racial discrimination impacts on lived experiences and different types of mental disorders, and the implications for practice and safeguarding.
Objectives

Explore the historical and intergenerational impact of 'race', culture , ethnicity, and spirituality on experiences of emotional distress

Examine the spheres of victimisation and oppression and the impact on mental health difficulties that BME children and families experience

Examine cultural, professional, institutional, structural, and historical victimisation and discrimination

Explore some of the risks and challenges associated with negative cultural attitudes towards adult mental illness and neurodiversity in children from Black and minority communities
