Examining the increased prevalence of emotional distress among children and how to safeguard and improve wellbeing holistically.

This session aims to enable participants to recognise the prevalence of emotional distress and deliberate self-harming behaviours among children and provide skills on how to safeguard and respond appropriately.

 

Objectives

  • Explore the prevalence of mental health issues and deliberate self-harming behaviours amongst children.
  • Understand the impact of the covid pandemic on children's wellbeing and development
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the risk factors and antecedents which contribute to social and psychological traumas experienced by children from different ethnic groups
  • Describe the social, cultural and environmental pressures and identity factors which impact on children's vulnerability, emotional distress, and self-harming behaviours
  • Use holistic model of interventions including THRIVE to engage with, safeguard, and improve children's emotional wellbeing
