Raising Awareness of Prevent

Friday 18 December 2015
14:15 to 16:00

Prevent aims to stop people becoming terrorists or actively supporting violent extremism. This is done through partnership working, involving local authority services, police, the NHS, fire brigade, ambulance service, transport police, probation service and third/voluntary sector organisations.

By the end of this workshop you will know what Prevent and Channel are and will know what to do if you have concerns about changes in someone’s personality or behaviour.

Learning Objectives

  • Outline the background of the Prevent strategy
  • Examine how Prevent is an extension of safeguarding and dispelling some of the myths built up around it.
  • Increase awareness of Channel: the process where people who have been identified as being at risk of moving into violent extremism are voluntarily engaged in an appro-private intervention.
  • What steps to take– what should you do if you have concerns about changes in someone’s personality or behaviour.
