Introduction to Bid Writing
Monday 05 December 2016
09:30 to 12:30
A practical, interactive workshop giving expert hints and tips to improve the quality and maximise the success of your future bids.
This workshop covers the fundamental elements of bid writing, presented in a logical order. It covers topics such as how to provide evidence of the need or demand for your project, the importance of outputs, outcomes and impact (and the difference between them), how to match what you want to do to what the funder wants, as well as tips on writing styles.
The things you will learn can be applied to the whole range of bid writing: from bids to smaller funders where there is no formal application form, right up to the two or three stage applications to larger funders such as The Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief.
Who is it for?
The workshop is aimed at Not For Profit (charity / voluntary / community / social enterprise / third sector) organisations that wish to apply for grant funding. The same principles apply to those bidding for contract work e.g. to local authorities, and so those organisations may also wish to attend.
It is suitable for anyone with a focus on fundraising and bid writing in particular, including those who are new to bid writing, those with some experience and also those who wish to have a refresher to ensure that their skills and knowledge are up to date.
This could include employed staff at any level, volunteers and Trustees / Board members.
By the end of the workshop, you will:
- Be aware of common pitfalls in making funding applications and how to overcome them
- Have a detailed knowledge of practical ways to improve bid writing
- Have had the opportunity to practise applying the new learning through a series of practical exercises
- Be able to undertake more focussed searches for future funding opportunities
- Take away a toolkit containing useful checklists and a standard bid template which you can use now and in the future
