Inclusion and Intersectionality - Supporting LGBTQI People of Faith

Tuesday 08 November 2016
10:00 to 13:00

Do you want practical tips on how to make your group or organisation more welcoming, safe and affirming to LGBTQI+ people of faith?
Do you want a deeper understanding about LGBTQ issues in faith communities, and vice versa?
If so, come along to this intersectional inclusion & diversity workshop and explore how issues related to LGBTQI+ and faith/religion affect the support you provide.
This workshop will be an interactive session; it will focus on understanding the impact of this intersection for service users and supporting LGBTQI people from the diverse faith communities. It aims to increase your understanding of identities and language used in an LGBTQI faith context, increase your confidence when working with LGBTQI+ people of faith, and create greater awareness of people's experiences and challenges including multiple barriers, accessing support as well as issues when interacting with peers, colleagues, communities and families
Discuss and explore sometimes challenging issues in a supportive environment.
Facilitated by Surat-Shaan Knan, a London-based LGBTQI+ campaigner, educator, heritage manager and international public speaker. He has founded and delivered UK landmark faith & LGBTQI+ projects such as Rainbow Jews and Twilight People. Shaan works for the charity Liberal Judaism, and is a member of the Stonewall Trans Advisory Group.
