On average, two-fifths of adults volunteer formally once a year and a quarter of adults volunteer at least once a month. The value that volunteering adds to the UK economy is in excess of £21.5 billion. For many small charities, volunteers are at the heart of the valuable work that they do. The challenge is in recruiting, supporting and managing these volunteers to ensure a successful volunteering experience, both for the charity and for the volunteer.
