Croydon Listening Workshop

Saturday 17 October 2020
13:00 to 15:00

Citizens UK are working together with South London Citizens -- an alliance of over 100 faith, education, charity and community organisations -- to run a Listening Campaign to ask our neighbours and communities about the injustices we are experiencing. Listening campaigns are a key tool in community organising (a method to achieve justice that involves people power and developing new leaders).

The purpose of a Listening Campaign is to hear what issues are arising that we can tackle together, as well as to find and develop new leaders and build the relationships we need to win change. There is an opportunity of an open door with SLAM (South London and Maudsley Mental Health Trust) and council leaders who want to engage with us throughout this process -- so once we have listened to each other, we will come together to decide where we can take action for change.

This training, run on zoom, will cover:

  • basic introduction to community organising
  • why listening is key to building power and developing leaders
  • practical tools for listening in your own organisations
  • planning next steps

This training is open to anyone from a member organisation of Croydon Citizens, as well as those who are not yet involved.

If you have any questions -- about this training itself or about Croydon Citizens and community organising -- please get in touch - email below.
