Youth Work Tea Break (Detached youth work)

Tuesday 12 January 2021

Detached youth work has long been recognised as an effective way to engage young people considered vulnerable or ‘at risk’ and those who choose not to access building-based youth provision. This has been especially true over the last months with lockdown restrictions in place and a media focus on young people in relation to Covid-19. With the ability to respond quickly and based on positive relationships built on mutual trust and respect, in some places detached youth work has been the only support available to young people. But in a year like no other what lessons have we learnt? Is detached the same as it was or is it emerging with new ideas, skills and protocols for good practise? And more importantly moving forward, what are the issues for young people across the UK?

This tea break is focusing on street-based work; to shine a light on the challenges and successes, with peers, over a cup of tea.
