Parent Carer Workshops for Early Years SEND - Croydon
Thursday 16 March 2023
10:30 to 12:30
A series of workshops funded by DfE is being held for parent carers of children aged 0-5 with special educational needs and disabilities.
Brighter Beginnings is for parents at the beginning of their journey.
Through a series of workshops, we will support families to tackle some of the unique challenges they might face in the early years.
Our trainer is an expert parent carer with lived experience of raising a child with special needs and/or disabilities. They will create a supportive discussion over the four weeks. You will have a chance to share questions and chat with other parents in the group.
The Workshops, which are suitable for parents of young children (aged 0 to 5) will take place at Croydon Mencap on the following dates:
Thursday 23 February 2023 - 10.30am-12.30pm- Managing Meetings
It’s very natural to feel overwhelmed about attending a meeting to discuss your child’s specialist needs and get the right support for them. This workshop will help give you the confidence to help you get the best from a virtual or face to face meeting.
Thursday 9 March 2023 - 10.30am-12.30pm- Understanding Behaviour
Gain a better understanding of why children with additional needs behave the way they do. Learn ways to handle difficult situations in a calm, stress-free manner. Explore ways of supporting and encouraging your child and how to get support and help.
Thursday 16 March 2023 - 10.30am-12.30pm- Topic tbc
The topic of the final workshop will be chosen from a selection by the parent carers who attend the first two workshops and could include:
• Early years entitlements
• Toilet Training
• Support for your child’s anxiety
• Educational support for young children with additional needs
• Speech and language 0 to 5
• Money Matters for parents of young children
• Wellbeing for parents/carers of young children with additional needs
It is hoped that parent carers will be able to attend all three workshops however, if you cannot make them all, you are still welcome to join the ones that you can
Please ensure you book a ticket for each workshop date that you plan to attend.
Please note there is no workshop on Thursday 2 March due to the planned teachers strikes and schools potentially being closed.
We are committed to offering workshops that are accessible to the widest audience possible. If you have any accessibility needs regarding this workshop, please contact training.admin@contact.org.uk as early as possible.
