Information about the sessions:

Katie from Keep Signing will deliver the Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 at TBXH Sunley House across the next few months. These are full days of training. Parents and carers will need to attend the full session in order to receive their certificate. This course is fully funded by Family Hubs Croydon.

Level 1 training provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Communication Programme. Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work. You will also learn the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2 (145 concepts) which is everyday, functional communicative words.

Level 2 training provides a follow on from the Level 1 Makaton Communication Programme. Sessions include discussing

commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work. You will also learn the signs and symbols from Stages 3 and 4 (145 concepts) which is everyday, functional communicative words.

Level 3 follows on from Level 2 training and helps you to improve and develop your signing and symbol skills and how to use them effectively every day. We work on your translation and interpretation skills. You will revise the signs and symbols you learned in your Level 1 and 2 training and learn the signs and symbols for Stages 5 and 6 of the Core Vocabulary. 

Level 4 follows on from Level 3 and completes the Core Vocabulary, developing your understanding and skills in using Makaton to support people with a wide range of communication difficulties. You will revise the signs and symbols you learned in your Level 1, 2 and 3 workshops and learn the signs and symbols for Stages 7 and 8 of the Core Vocabulary.

You will also be given certificates of attendance. Please bring your Level 1 certificate to train for Level 2, Level 2 certificate to train for Level 3 and Level 3 certificate to train for Level 4. You will not be able to train if you do not bring your certificates.

Due to creche being unavailable and length of course please do not bring your child / children.
