Job Title: Community Builder – Croydon Homelessness Intervention Partnership 

Reporting to: Head of Communities 

Responsible for: Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Community Builder supporting the Croydon Homelessness Intervention Partnership (CHIP) 

Hours: Full-time – 36 hours per week 

Contract: Fixed Term Contract – October 2026 – March 2029 

Working days: Monday to Friday, worked flexibly in accordance with the needs of the service. May occasionally work at weekends or in the evening. 

Location: 3 days a week at the day centre based at CVA’s Resource Centre and 2 days a week at other locations across Croydon, as required. 

Salary: £30,982.68 plus OLW.

Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA) seeks a highly motivated Community Builder who cares about the work we do. With a future focus on children and communities, we have bold and exciting plans for carrying out CVA remit in leadership, coordination and investment - as outlined in our Business Plan.  

This is an exciting opportunity to support in the delivery of a new community project tackling homelessness – Croydon Homelessness Intervention Partnership (CHIP), which will be delivered in partnership with CAYSH and Spires and in collaboration with the West Croydon Baptist Church. At the centre of delivery will be a safe, welcoming prevention Hub where people experiencing homelessness or those vulnerably housed will be able to access specialist support while building connections, confidence and pathways towards greater independence.  

As a Community Builder, you will use Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) and strengths-based approaches to support in the delivery of a day centre (3 days) and community outreach (2 days) to homeless people in Croydon or those at risk of homelessness.   

An ABCD approach recognises that the whole community has a role to play in ending homelessness. You will help people identify their strengths, interests and aspirations, connecting them to local activities, assets, groups and community resources. Helping people rebuild social networks and resilience, which are key to sustaining housing and wellbeing.  

You will also coordinate a volunteer befriending programme, with volunteers providing companionship, helping people build confidence and reconnect with everyday community spaces. Volunteers will also support in the service delivery of the day centre, including in the kitchen, welcome and reception, helping members access laundry and shower services.
