Big Local Broad Green (BLBG) are delighted to officially launch Broad Green in Bloom Competition, sponsored by Clarion Housing.
This is a competition for homes, businesses, shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and other organisations including schools, faith and community centres etc. to beautify their front gardens, balconies, window boxes and planters in displays of natural plants and flowers.
BLBG are hoping that this will begin to create a sense of pride in the area. It is proven that areas that look well maintained and better cared for experience less flytipping, fouling and littering. There are added health and wellbeing benefits too. It is proven connecting to nature is beneficial for mental health, and gardening is a bona fide form of exercise. People moving through or around the area will experience improved sense of wellbeing through the added greenery and blooms. There are environmental benefits too. Plants improve air quality and cultivated soil reduces climate change (as concrete is hotter than soil) and reduces surface water run off therefore reducing risk of flooding. Natural habitats will be created for important pollinators, insects and birds.
There will be 3 categories:
- front gardens
- balconies, planters, hanging baskets or window boxes
- organisations (includes faith centres, schools, businesses)
Winners from each category will receive a cash prize of £50!
